Prayagraj: Allahabad University (AU) has established a team of faculty members from various areas of expertise to work protecting River Ganga from environmental degradation.
The team will also involve volunteers to work for the river in protecting it from pollution and rejuvenating its banks through community participation.
Acting according to the direction of the Ministry of Jal Shakti, the AU authorities have formed a special committee below Prof.
Ir Siddiqui from the Chemistry Department for this purpose.
The panel will have four members, including two female teachers.
This will keep tabs in Ganga and banks in addition to conduct extensive surveys about the river bank to identify potential hazards.
As part of a new initiative from this central university, the team’s goal will protect the national river and help include the main sources of dangerous pollution.
VC has issued orders in this matter.
The committee will work in collaboration with the Indian Technology Institute (IIT), Kanpur.
“Ganga is not just a river for us, but the flow of civilization and our national culture and identity.
Efforts must be made to make free ganga pollution and ensure the continuity of the flow.
For this, we will monitor the river, survey all villages other than the course, geotag drains fall on The river and most importantly binding in the community living in their banks to protect the river, “said the Head of the Geography Department Prof.

“Community support, including students and college teachers and schools located in villages along the river, will be sought for a lifetime of villagers revolving around the river and once they are made aware of the need to preserve the river, the half battle is won,” he added , “The support of NCC cadets and NSS volunteers will be taken in activating villagers, students, women and grams of Panchayats,” he said further.

Ar Siddiqui further said that the survey would be carried out along the Ganga, in a stretch of Kaushambi and Prayagraj, to identify and check pollution spots.
Along with this, community outreach programs will be held so that large campaigns to protect the river can begin.
