Pune: Pune airport recorded a significant increase in passenger traffic in August after a break in April and maybe because of the second wave of pandemic.
August recorded an increase of almost 42% in passenger traffic compared to July (see box).
“Airlines started new flights to cities such as Ranchi, Tirupati, Thiruvananthapuram, and flights to resuming Jaipur and Goa have also helped.
New flights witnessed almost full occupancy,” an airport official said.
However, with the weekend, see high passenger traffic, space constraints cannot be resolved until the new terminal is ready.
“The weekend in August records the number of high passengers and crowds is a challenge, but we manage,” the official said.
According to other airport officials, traveling on weekends seems to be a trend.
August does not have a big holiday but weekend passenger traffic is increasing.
The new terminal building, which is expected to be assigned in August next year, will solve problems related to the crowd and parking, the official said.
Higher passenger traffic was recorded in the first week of September with the celebration season began.
“There are regulations in place, the most common is the need for negative negative RT-PCR or a vaccination certificate for both doses.
However, it has not stopped traveling people,” said the source of the airline.
Sources at the airport said the Indian Air Force still has not provided the right date regarding the closure of the runway for a reset carpet.
“We hope it will happen at the end of October or early November.
The foundation closure will affect traffic and airlines during the peak holiday season will only begin,” the official said.
