Yangon: Overthrowing the leader of Myanmar Aung San Suu Kyi returned to the Junta Court on Friday after missing hearing beforehand because he felt unwell, a source with the knowledge of the case.
Suu Kyi has been detained because the civilian government was overthrown in the coup last year who triggered mass protests and bloody military crackers, with more than 1,500 civilians killed, according to local monitoring groups.
Cut from the world except for a short meeting with the legal team and court appearance, the Nobel winner faces a raft of charges that can see it imprisoned for more than 150 years.
He missed a hearing on Thursday at his trial on charges of violating official secret laws because he felt “dizzy”, a source with knowledge of the case.
Detaining Australian Academic Sean Turnell was co-defendant with Suu Kyi in the case.
Suu Kyi returned on Friday for the latest hearing in one of the corruption trials, related to helicopter rentals, the source said.
“Now he’s fine,” added the source.
The 76-year-old Suu Kyi missed a hearing in September because of illness, and in October his lawyer said his health suffered because of his frequent appearance before the Junta Court.
Journalists were banned from the process in the capital built by the Naypyidaw military and his lawyers had been banned from talking to the press.
On Thursday, Junta announced that he had submitted eleventh corruption charges against Suu Kyi for allegedly receiving $ 550,000 as a contribution to the charity foundation called her mother.
He has been sentenced to six years in prison for incitement towards the military, violates the rules of Covid-19 and solving telecommunications laws – even though he will remain under house arrest while he opposes other charges.
