Melbourne: Kristina Mladenovic and Croatia Ivan Dodig swept 6-3 6-4 victories against Local Duo Jaimee Fourlis and Jason Kuber to claim the Australian Open mixed crown in Melbourne Park on Friday.
Playing under a closed roof at the Rod Laver Arena, Mladenovic and Dodig down to a solid start, securing a vital break at 4-3 before closing the set after some great presentation of French women.
The Australian Wildcard pair was broken down again at the start of the second set because the beautiful Dodig game on the internet proved to be too good for the serving fourlis.
However, the 22-year-old made a mistake immediately and forced Dodig to be a mistake to get a break and level 2-2.
Momentum swung back quickly to Mladenovic and Dodig, and they secured another break before the tilted volley from Mladenovic gave the fifth seed pair their first grand slam title together.
