Sydney: George Bailey’s head voter said on Tuesday he would step to the side of the vote whether the Paine team had to remain on the side of the Australian test cricket if there was a split decision, given their personal relationships and business.
Paine suddenly stopped as captain on Friday ahead of the series of Abu against England during a series of obscene text messages with a female colleague in 2017 which will be published.
But he explained that he still wanted to play as Wicketkeeper in the opening test in Brisbane on December 8.
The decision will be made by the selection panel of three people consisting of Bailey, coach Justin Langer and Tony Dodemide who have recently been appointed.
Bailey, who took over from Trevor Hohns as head of the selector earlier this year, was a close friend of Paine, after a long play with Tasmania.
They also co-investors in the gym business in the state.
“If the panel does not match the position of the team ahead and it will go down to the vote, then I will rule out and leave it to Tony and Justin to work,” he said in the cricket podcas etc.
“They both realized that.” Paine, 36, has suggested he might retire at all after ash and if he was not chosen for Brisbane it could spell the end of his international career.
Working on it was a lack of match training after invasive surgery in September for pain in his neck and left arm due to a prominent disk.
He returned for the second Xi Tasmania in Hobart on Monday, won six catches.
Bailey, the former captain of the limited Australian teams, said voters watch how he fare.
“One thing team is always smart enough to be the preparation side of things.
He is quite careful,” he said.
“There is no doubt it is not the ideal preparation, but we will watch this match and he will know how he passes four days as much as there.” If they choose against it, Alex Carey is seen as a favorite to bring gloves in Brisbane.
