Vienna: Austrian Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg said Friday he wanted to introduce a national lock for those who were not vaccinated or recovered from Coronavirus, because the case rose quickly.
“The goal is clear: we want on Sunday to give a green light for national locking for those who are not vaccinated,” Schallenberg said at a press conference.
The upper state of Austria and Salzburg, who have seen several lower levels of cases, have introduced locking for those who are not vaccinated on Monday.
In order for the applicable steps to be applied nationally, it must be signed by the parliament and meeting of regional government heads over the weekend.
Health Minister Wolfgang Meeckstein also announced on Friday that he would order mandatory vaccination for health workers.
About 64 percent of the population was fully vaccinated in Austria, which was below the average throughout the UE 67 percent.
Schallenberg describes the level of vaccination as “low embarrassing”.
So far, more than 11,640 people infected with the new Coronavirus have died in Austria.
