New Delhi: Automatic rickshaw fitness tests and taxis are expected to be easier and less time consuming because the Department of Transportation Government Delhi will establish 10 automatic inspection and certification lines at Burari facilities, officials said on Sundays.
After bringing a proposal seven years ago, the department has now floated tenders to establish automatic lines in the vehicle inspection unit in Burari.
The system will be placed in the next few months because the offer opened in March, a senior transportation department official said.
Automation will increase the accuracy of fitness tests because of various components such as brakes, grip, headlights, and suspension, among others, will be examined and evaluated through machines and computers, officials said.
At present, smaller vehicles such as automatic rickshaws, taxi and rural transport vehicles are being tested for fitness manually at the center of the Burari.
This process takes time and is not too accurate, officials said.
The test center currently sees around 300 vehicles for fitness testing every day.
Larger vehicles like buses and trucks are being tested at the Department facility in Jhuljhuli.
