Mangaluru: Autonomy College (UG) in coastal districts will add additional courses of their choice for each stream, in addition to the curriculum determined based on national education policies by Mangalore University.
Courses include large open online courses (MOOC), research components and others.
The UG Four-Year Course under NEP began this week in all districts, and all colleges followed the curriculum prescribed by Mangalore University.
However, autonomous colleges have decided to add several short-term courses without thinning the original curriculum.
These short-term courses not only provide additional credit to students, but also aim to improve their skills to make them ready for the industry.
Under the Four-Year Graduation Program Nep, it has several outgoing options.
A two-semester settlement candidate produced a certificate, in four semesters obtaining a diploma, a degree on six semester settlement and awards to complete four years or eight semesters.
The UG Lama program has six semesters, and gets more than three years.
An official from St Aloysius College shares that without making changes or dilute the NEP curriculum from a four-year course, the institution has decided to add several short-term courses to a full-time course.
‘We will ensure that this add-on course together with regular courses will not affect the Credit Academic Bank, if there is a candidate who wants to turn to other educational institutions after one or two years to complete the course.
The add-on course will give students to get good credit and skills, “said the official.
Another autonomous college in the region, St Agnes College, has offered additional courses in previous UG programs.
Universities have offered literacy courses Computers free of charge for all students during the UG Old Program.
However, NEP has added digital fluency as one of the subjects in one of the semesters.
This course is a computer literacy progress, said Sr.
Venissa, Principal of the College.
“Because NEP has just been applied, We can add additional courses along with the NEP curriculum in the coming days.
At present, the curriculum has been given only for two semesters, “he added.” Autonomic colleges have the flexibility to add open choice and also make changes in the NEP curriculum from 20% to 40%.
