New Delhi: Twitter microblogging platform on Wednesday said the average day of every day Tweet about Covid-19 from India increased by 7x during April-May this year compared to the February-March period.
Social media appears as a lifeline for many people during the second wave of pandemic with people who switch to platforms like Twitter and Facebook with SOS calls because they are looking for resources such as oxygen cylinders, hospital beds, plasma donors, and ventilators.
“The average number of daily tweets about Covid-19 from India has increased by more than 600 percent (7x) during a surge (April 1 – 31 May 2021).

Tweet with hashtags – #CoronavirusUpdates, #CoronainDiaUpdate, # covid19indiaesources and others – suggest conversations with 10x, he added.
People also advance to contribute to relief efforts, and fundraising conversations rose 731 percent (8x).
The mental well recorded 153 percent (2.5x) increased during the period of surge when people tweeted with tags such as #doctorSmentalhealth, #Covidcelling, #Covidinsomnia, and others.
Tweet on #IndiaFightscorona saw a 530 percent increase, while #DelhIfightscorona and #Maharashtrafightscorona also witnessed a significant increase in tweets.
“More than before, Twitter remains committed to serving public conversations.
This introduces a number of features and initiatives to support Covid-19 conversations in India,” said the statement.
