Chennai: India Authority Airport (AAI) Officers distributed pamphlets among people who live near the airport urging them not to burn appires on Thursday because smoke will influence visibility and cause delays.
The pamphlet that describes the impact of the campfire is distributed in Pallavaram, Pammal, Anakaputhur, Kabapakkam, Manapakkam, Gerugambakkam, Nanganallur, Madipakkam, St Thomas Mount, Pozhichalur, Meenambakkam and Tirusulam as precautions.
The airport has carried out such awareness campaigns and found that it caused a reduction in flight delays over the past three years.
In 2018, the airfield was covered with thick smoke from a campfire and a decrease in visibility affected 73 departures and 45 arrivals in the morning.
However, in 2019, 2020 and 2021 the effects of campfire on flights were substantially reduced thanks to conscious campaigns.
