Outside the International Airport Hamid Karzai in Kabul on Thursday, the crowd of Afghans who had a bustle gathered on the side of the Taliban controlled from the concrete wall with a razor wire to beg for a group of marines to give them access to freedom.
Suddenly, the mass outstretched hand produced a baby, no more than a few months, and lifted the child to see the soldiers.
As if handling a piece of luggage, a marine pulled a baby with one arm, past the child behind him before returning to the crowd.
The scene was terrible to watch, triggering anger in a haphazard evacuation process.
On Friday, the US military was eager to share that infants had been unamared safely with family members.
“The baby who was seen in the video was taken to the medical care facility at the location and was treated by medical professionals,” Department of James Stenger, Marine spokesman, wrote via email.
“I can confirm the baby to come back with their father and safe at the airport.” Stenger does not provide additional details, including how many children are taken to similar facilities in the past few days.
But he sent a series of photos showing the marines playing with children at the military checkpoint.
Fast resolution for heartbreaking photos detrimental to chaotic scenes and take place quickly where many children are placed into the treatment of US forces in the last effort to make them free.
