Mumbai: A 16-month-old girl and her mother died, while her father suffered an injury after a cement mixer crashed into their motorcycle at Western Express Highway (Weh) in Goregaon (e) on Saturday.
The police said the stretch to the South Weh where the accident occurred a pockmark, which could cause it.
The driver of the cement mixer was arrested and then released on a guarantee.
This is the second accide-NT in Goregaon (E) involving the death of a child in two months.
In December, the five-month-old Arfan Pathhan, who was cycling with his parents, was killed after a driver, allegedly drunk and drove in the wrong direction, hit them.
On Saturday night, Abdul Khalid Shaikh (26), his wife Nilofer (25), and their daughter, Zainab, returned to their vile parle house on their bicycles, while her nephew Shifanuddin Sayyad and mother were in other two-wheeled vehicles.
“Sayyad came down from Hyderabad so we made a dinner plan at my sister’s place in Kandivli,” Shaikh, a Madrassa teacher, told the police.
At 11pm, Shaikh was on the flyover opposite the Oberoi Mall when the semen mixer hit him from behind.
“We fell on the road.
My right foot was stuck under a cement bicycle and mixer destroyed my wife and child,” he said.
He pointed to Sayyad to stop the vehicle.
The driver, Sudarshan Saroj (51) was taken to the police station where he was ordered for causing death from negligence.
Shaikh was in a hurry to the Ambedkar Babasaheb hospital.
“We have sent Saroj’s blood samples to the laboratory to set if he drinks.
