‘Bad incident reporting by the state is not satisfactory’

Pune: National side effects after the Immunization Committee (AEFI) has urged the state to ensure all side effects after Jab Covid-19 is reported to the Cowin portal.
The committee said there had been a drastic decline at the state reporting rate.
The Head of the Committee, Dr.
NK Arora, said the countries must notify the vaccination to report all the events of concerns that occurred in 28 days of Covid-19 vaccination.
He added that because AEFI reporting was low, the country might lose some rare bad events, which can be relevant to Indian and foreign regulators because some vaccines used in the country have also been globally deployed.
Co-convenor from the Narcotics Action Network of all India, Malini Aisola, said the current reporting system was very weak and unresponsive.
He said, “Many people face difficulties when reporting AEFI, let alone secure medical support from vaccination programs, although there are provisions for medical management in the protocol.” He added that the quality of evidence when investigating AEFI at the local level was very bad with many events set aside as not related to vaccination, even before evidence was collected.
“This reveals poor awareness and training between district level authorities and committees,” said Aisola, added that the slow rate of reporting did not serve the purpose because only 91 AEFI investigations were completed until May 27.
He said it was also a family that could not be affected had been informed.
“So there are few things to instill confidence in the system that is intended to protect the patient’s safety,” he added.
Recently, the AEFI Committee approved a report of 60 serious side effects, governing that 55 of them (mostly needed inpatient), was associated with vaccination according to causality assessment.
The remaining five cases, including the death of a 57-year-old man in February after a Covishield shot, was ordered as “coincidence”, indirectly related to Covid vaccination.
Report 60 cases submitted to the Ministry of Health on July 8.
The report said 36 of the 60 reactions related to interim anxieties 18 were reactions related to vaccine products.
One bad event is classified as a reaction related to vaccine products and anxiety.
Five cases are found to have causal relations that are not consistent with vaccination (incidentally; not related to vaccination) which is death in February.
The first report on the Causality Assessment, which has 31 serious AEFI cases, was released in June.
The report recorded death related to the first Indian Covid vaccine.
Seven other post-vaccination deaths are expressed as “uncertain”, showing no evidence to connect it to the vaccine.
