Ranchi: Governor of Ramesh Bais on Friday scored a private university to start various courses and distribute degrees among students without permission from the Grants University (UGC) Commission.
BAIS has directed all private universities to meet the criteria set by UGC and the earliest government.
He said education should not be considered business.
“This is a problem of surprise and sadness that private universities established in our country do not meet the criteria set by UGC and the government,” he said.
The governor is reviewing academic and administrative activities from various private universities on Friday in Raj Bhavan.
He showed that since the practice of giving recognition to open private universities began, some velsitas had mushroomed.
Most of these universities operate without following UGC and government norms.
Referring to Chattisgarh, he stated how universities were like that (around 125), operating without norms closed and within two months only six universities were left.
BAIS urged private universities to focus on quality education to ensure student work.
He emphasized to increase the ratio of teachers in universities.
The governor said it was ironic to see many private universities not having their own building not enough land even after getting recognition for a long time.
BAIS also directs the university to make settings for separate toilets for girls and special ones.
After attending the meeting, the head of the additional school, higher education and technical, KK Khandelwal, said, “Governor was worried about the status of higher education in the state.
He has underlined the need for a personal varsity must have soil for at least 25 hectares.”
