Balcony Buildings collapsed, 7 suffered minor injuries

Rajkot: The first floor balcony slab of a building on Jalan Yagnik who was busy collapsing on Thursday morning.
Fortunately, there were no victims reported about seven people escaping with a minor injury.
Seven stores located on the ground floor of the damaged building.
Jalan Agung is the busiest commercial road in the middle Rajkot.
Five star hotels are also located adjacent to the Dhanraajni complex, where the accident occurred.
The building has two entrances – in Yagnik Road and in Jagnath Road.
Both are busy roads and on Thursday there are heavy traffic on two roads with lots of shopping in Diwali.
The police said that the first floor balcony plate towards Jagnath Road collapsed.
For a few minutes, the area around the building was shrouded in thick dust.
Three female customers, one employee and general store owner are trapped in debris from the falling portion.
They were saved by Pas Sersby.
Two other shop owners were saved before firefighting personnel reached the place.
Apart from the shops on the ground floor, the two two-wheeled wheels parked in front of the building were also damaged.
The incident brought ahead of the sluggish attitude adopted by Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) towards a dilapidated commercial building.
The locals said that the 22-year-old building was in a dilapidated condition due to lack of maintenance.
P D Adhiya, RMC City Planning Officer, said, “Before the slab collapsed, it developed the crack.
It is the responsibility of the building association and the user to improve and maintain the building.
Also, they do not report to the RMC about the condition of a dilapidated building.” In general , RMC conducts a building survey and issues a notification to a dilapidated structure.
But there is no notification issued for this building.
Also, RMC has not initiated any questions to find out the reasons behind the collapse.
“We will conduct a structural stability survey to see whether the rest of the building can be used or not,” said Amit Arora’s city commissioner to Ti.
The police have taken the accident application at the Division Police Station and started an investigation.
“We have started investigations and we will also request reports from RMC about building structural stability.
If we find negligence, we will register a violation of those responsible,” said Deputy Commissioner (Zone 1) Praveen Kumar.
