DHAKA: The Bangladesh high court has hunted related documents, for example, birth registration and instructional eligibility certifications, of former prime minister Khaleda Zia to ascertain her date of arrival, based on media reports.
The digital high court seat of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Sardar Md Rashed Jahangir issued the order on Sunday after hearing a writ petition filed May 31 by Supreme Court attorney Md Mamun-or-Rashid challenging the legality of observing the birthday of 75-year-old Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) leader on August 15.
The courtroom on Sunday lacked the arrival registration, passport, instructional certification and other records concerning Zia’s date of arrival out of the United News of Bangladesh reported.
In reaction to this writ petition, the court requested authorities concerned to extend the record for it 60 days.
Zia is also serving a 17-year prison sentence at two graft instances since February 8, 2018.
In the request, the attorney said it’s a topic of terrific distress for the state which Zia has said her date of birth as being August 15, 1946, in her current passport together with all the ulterior purpose and malafide intent of maligning the National Mourning Day once Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman along with many of his relatives were brutally murdered in 1975, ” the report included.
The petitioner stated Zia’s birthday has been listed as September 5, 1946, in her SSC certification; August 4, 1944, in her union enrollment; August 5, 1946, in her machine-readable passport issued in 2001; also May 8, 1946, in her Covid-19 evaluation report published on May 8, 2021.
But, BNP joint secretary-general and prior Supreme Court Bar Association secretary AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon compared the writ petition stating that the writ petitioner has filed the request to be able to attain political advantage.
Thousands of individuals, such as Zia, were created on August 15he explained, adding it isn’t appropriate for the HC to handle things like birthdays.
Zia was sent to prison with a court for embezzling overseas donations intended to get an orphanage, called after her husband and husband Ziaur Rehman, through her premiership between 2001 and 2006.
Rehman, a military ruler-turned-politician, has been the creator of the BNP.
