Dhaka: Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday instructed the Minister of Home Affairs to start very strict actions against those who incited violence using religion when he asked people not to believe social media without examining facts.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement that domestic elements against the independence of Bangladesh from Pakistan 50 years ago were still distributing “toxic narratives to trigger violence, hatred, and lightly”.
Attack on Hindu temples has increased in Bangladesh since Wednesday after the allegations after blasphemy appearing on social media during the celebration of Puja Durga in Cumilla.
During the weekly cabinet meeting on Tuesday, PM Hasina instructed the Minister of Home Asaduzzaman Khan to begin immediate action against those who incited violence using religion, Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam was quoted as saying by the Dhaka Tribune newspaper.
“The cumilla incident was being investigated.
What really happened to be known soon,” he said, added, Hasina had announced to give all the assistance to the affected family.
Local media reported that six Hindus were killed in separate attacks, but those numbers could not be confirmed independently.
The Statement of the Foreign Ministry underlined that the Bangladeshi government “firmly condemned the incidents and recorded serious reactions from within and outside the Hindu community”.
Unfortunately, he said, domestic elements who opposed the independence of Bangladesh from Pakistan 50 years ago were still distributing “toxic narratives to incite violence, hatred, and seriousism”.
So far, the police have arrested 450 alleged attackers in various parts of the country and slavery ongoing to track more.
“71 cases were submitted,” said a police spokesman.
