Pune: Molnupiravir oral-antivirus which was immediately introduced and Paxlovid could prove the game-changer in the fight against SARS-COV-2 and his new variant, such as feeling Omicron.
These drugs are primarily useful in countries like India where the population is quite large or partially vaccinated or has hybrid immunity – natural infection and recovery followed by vaccination.
In the event of the spread of omicron, therefore, it will most likely only get Mildo-moderate disease that can be easily treated at home with new drugs.
While Molnupiravir is awaiting authorization of emergency use in India, the process of getting commercially available Paxlovid is being established in Western countries and will soon be available in India.
If these drugs are authorized in the coming weeks, they can prove the main treatment options for people with Covid-19 amid omicron concerns, said infectious diseases.
“The ability to treat Covid-19 with oral pills rather than injection or infusion means more people can be treated faster,” said an infectious disease Dr.
Sanjay Pujari, member of the National Covid Task Force.
“The two drugs have shown efficacy to reduce the risk of development for severe diseases or deaths among patients with mild diseases and those who have a risk factor,” he added.
Molnupiravir is approved in the Food and Drug Advisory Panel of the United States (USFDA) which is carefully selected (13 to 10).
Likewise, following the promising initial Paxlovid results, approval was being sought for emergency use permits from oral pills from USFda.
Although the data on both the effectiveness of the drug against Omicron is currently being delayed, both antivirus is likely to be effective in treating infections from a new variant because of the mechanism they do.
Mutations are more common in protein surge.
Omicron has a total of 32 mutations in a surge protein.
“In the laboratory study, Molnupiravir has proven effective against other variants such as Alpha and Delta,” said Dr.
Pujari.
“After the authorities, this pill will allow patients to be treated before in the course of infection, at the point when antivirus drugs are more effective.
By stopping the virus from growing in the body since the beginning, drugs can prevent inflammation that causes severe Covid-19 inflammation,” Dr.
Atul Patel said, the Director (Infectious Disease) based in Ahmedabad at Vedanta Institute of Medical Sciences.
