Washington: Steve Bannon, an old allied from former US President Donald Trump, has been charged with two allegations of Congress criminal insults after he opposes court calls from the home committee investigating the January 6 rebellion at the US Curitol.
On Friday, the US Justice Department said Bannon, 67, was indicted with a count to refuse to accommodate deposition last month and another because it refused to provide documents to the Pupoena Committee.
He is expected to surrender to the authorities on Monday and will appear in court that afternoon, a law enforcement official said.
Attorney General Merrick Garland said Bannon’s indictment reflected the “Syeadfast commitment” of the Ministry of Justice to the supremacy of the law.
Every count brings a minimum of 30 days in prison and for a year behind bars.
The charges came as the second expected witness, former Chief of Staff White Mark Mark Meadows, opposed the call in subpotoya himself from the committee on Friday.
