Barodians for ‘March’ for awakening Wiswamitri

Vadodara: For years now, Barodian has demanded the resurrection of the Wiswamitri River.
On October 15, to involve stakeholders in rejuvenating rivers flowing from the heart of the city, a group of residents will conduct a novel ‘Vishwamitri Padusyatra’ on October 15, walking with the river and connecting with urban people living in their banks.
“We have made efforts to revive the river cleaning them from pollution and gaps that have swallowed it.
We have reached Government Authority and Environmental Activists for years.
Now, we will involve sensitive citizens about the river and importance,” said Dr.
Jitendra Gavali , Director, Community Science Center that facilitates the foot of March.
“We intend to collect Barodians and make them walk on the banks of the river.
Many are not aware of the history or biodiversity.
Once they understand it, they tend to join us in a revival project.
We will also be connected with people who live on the river bank and Involving them in our campaign, “Gavali said to Ti.
Rally is being held at the alert of the birth of former President Abdul Kalam, who has supported ‘Vaho Wiswamitri Abhiyan’.
Participants will run almost 22 km stretch in seven to eight hours.
“We will try to cover the temples along the rivers other than other interesting places.
Spread awareness about Wishwamitri which is home to hundreds of crocodiles will also ensure that people do not throw garbage in it,” Vishal Thakur said, one of the committee.
The plan is also ongoing to invite several leading citizens during the campaign.
“We will arrange a larger ‘Padyatra’ in January, where we will cover the entire stretch of Wiswamitri from the starting point in Pavagadh,” Gavali added.
