New Delhi: The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President Narinder Batra has supported the Hockey’s Hockey’s decision to pull out the Commonwealth Game 2022.
Indian men and women’s hockey teams have decided to get out of the 2022 Commonwealth game, which will be held.
Next year from 28 July to 8 August in Birmingham.
The team has put their full focus on the Asian Games 2022, which will be hosted in Hangzhou, China, from 10 to 25 September.
President IOA said the decision not to send a team to CWG was made with Indian hockey and highlighting the fact that India would easily qualify for the Paris game if they won the Asian Cup.
“For hockey, if you win Asian games, you can qualify for the Olympics.
If the male and female team doesn’t win the gold medal here then they have to choose the Olympic qualification route,” said Batra Ani.
“32 days after CWG, the Asian Games will be played and the player also needs to rest at that time.
So the player will be without training.
And if Indian hockey thinks that the Olympics are more important than CWG, I will support their decision.” “Hockey game drains you, so we can’t give stress to our players.
We can’t expect them to peak twice a month,” he added.
Because the Asian Games is a continental qualifying event for the Paris 2024 Olympics, the Indian men’s hockey team needs to be at their best when they take part in Asian games in September 2022.
It is a priority for the team to win a gold medal at the Asian Games 2022, so secure qualifications Directly for the Paris Olympics.
This will allow a nearly 2 years team to fully prepare the Olympics.
Batra also talked about the election of IOA to be held soon and he only said ‘sports’ who won in the election.
“In our IOA Constitution, there is a provision to make an ad-hoc body.
In that body, one IOA representative, one representative of the State Olympic Association and one from the National Federation together with the complainant will resolve the problem,” Batra said.
“There are several complaints in handball, fence, Kho Kho from the State Olympic Federation so we will stop all this,” he added.
More about plans to expand Hockey, said Batra, “We are sure to start Hockey India league in 2022 or 2023.
Market sentiment also fell due to Covid-19 pandemic.
The league can only be continued with money.”
