Melbourne: Australia’s East Coast countries from New South Wales and Queensland face an increasing battle against the Delta Covid-19 variant on Sunday, with millions of people under strict locking and authorities urging more testing and vaccination to control the outbreak.
Sydney and its surroundings, under order to stay at home for five weeks, reported 239 new cases obtained from highly contagious delta tensions, matching a record of daily numbers in the current outbreak reported on Thursday.
5 million city residents and those who are in neighboring regional centers covering 200 km (120 miles) the coastline must stay at home until August 28.
The total number of cases in the plague, which began in mid-June, has reached 3,427.
“I think the important thing is to know is that there are no roadmaps for the Delta variant,” said NSW Premier Gladys Kemulian.
“The challenge for us is more and more people are vaccinated in August so that on August 28 appears, we have a choice of how we can relieve limitations.” The drive of Australian vaccination has been slow, with only 18% of adults who are fully vaccinated so far.
Brad Hazzard, Minister of Health NSW, said that 70% of the country’s population could be fully vaccinated in about four months.
In Queensland neighbors, there are nine new cases obtained by local in Covid-19, the largest daily surge in almost a year.
More than 3 million inhabitants were put into a snap pin three days on Saturday.
“It’s very important (to be tested), anyone with any symptoms, it doesn’t matter where you are, because I don’t know where this virus is currently,” said Chiefeensland Health Head Jeannette Young.
Australia has managed to keep the epidemic mostly under control with a total of more than 34,000 cases and 924 deaths.
But a slow vaccination drive means that it can be months before the country’s border is reopened.
