LONDON: Andy Murray fought back from two sets for a deficit to defeat the German Oscar Oste qualification and reached the third round of Wimbledon on Wednesday.
Former number one Murray won 6-3, 4-6, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 for 151 OTTE ratings under the roof of the central court.
British star played on a single event for the first time since 2017 and was ranked lowly 118 after the battle against hip injury and groin, avoiding what would be the earliest exit of the tournament.
“What atmosphere will be played in the end,” Murray said 34 years old.
“I need everyone’s help tonight.
I did a good job, playing the top shots at the end but it was a difficult match.” He will face the 10th seed Canada Denis Shapovalov for a place in the last 16 years.
“I was clearly tired.
I fell more than a few times, the court was quite nice,” Murray added after almost four hours in court.
“Considering everything, I feel fine.
The hip is still good.
It’s a day of rest tomorrow and hopefully I can get out and look good.” Otte who was exhausted Monday and Tuesday to see from the fellow qualifying Arthur Rinderknech with the match was decided by the final tie-breaker set, 13-12.
