New Delhi: Indian cricket boards can soon become richer by at least Rs 5000 Crore with additional two new franchises for 2022 Indian Premier League editions.
IPL, which is currently an eight team tournament, will be a 10-team affair from the next edition and during the recent government council meeting, the modality of the bidding process was hit.
“Any company can buy a bidding document that pays Rs 75 Crore.
Top Brass was previously thinking about keeping the base price for two new teams at RS 1700 Crore but then it was decided to keep the base price at RS 2000 Crore,” Senior BCCi Source told PTI in anonymity conditions.
The source, which has been dealing with the financial side of the IPL in the past, said that BCCI stood up to get at least Rs 5000 Crore if the offer went as planned with many large business conglomerates that showed an active interest in the offer.
“BCCI expects anything in the range of 5000 crores if not more.
There will be 74 IPL games next season and it is a win-win situation for everyone.” Learned that only companies with an annual turnover of Rs 3000 Crore will be allowed to bid the team.
In a welcome news, BCCI plans to allow the consortium to bid the team because it makes the offer process more excited.
“I think more than three business entities will not be allowed to form a consortium but if three businesses gather and want to jointly bid for the team, they are welcome to do so,” he said.
Among the places of teams can be based including Ahmedabad, Lucknow and Pune.
Narendra Modi Stadium at Ahmedabad Stadium and Ekana in Lucknow, with a larger capacity, can be an option for franchising.
Some names that conduct rounds including the Adani Group, RPG Sanjeev Goenka Group, recorded the Torrent of Pharma and leading bankers who have shown active interest in buying a team.
