Kolkata: If your child has tested positive Covid-19, be careful with certain symptoms that he might develop within four to eight weeks of infection – relapse fever, skin rash, eye redness, lips and tongue, diarrhea or abdominal pain tongue .
According to Pediatricians, these symptoms can be a red flag for MIS-C (multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children), post-covid complications that have followed a number of children for two previous pandemic waves.
Two cases of Mis-C have been detected at the Medical College Hospital Kolkata (MCHK) and the doctor wants parent alert because many children catch the virus in the third wave.
The conditions caused by the immune response delayed against the Koronavirus in children, MIS-C is a severe condition in which children affected by various complications, including multi-organ dysfunction.
“The two children at MCHK were found covid-positive in the RT-PCR test which also showed the failure of the Gene (SGTF) target, indicating the possibility of omicron infection.
This is alert for pediatrics and parents who might also trigger mis-C and they must be vigilant,” said Professor Pediatrics Mihir Sarkar.
One child was a three and a half year old girl from Phoolbagan and another eight-year-old boy from midnapore.
Both of them suffer from obesity.
“We really don’t have a lot of data but on this type of vitarian impact can go to children after infection.
But given the higher the number of infections among these children, parents must oversee the symptoms of MIS-C that can develop Between four and eight weeks after infection.
“Prabhas Prabhas Giri, Associate Professor Pediatriatri at the Institute of Child Health.
There is no reason to take a virus lightly: Documents in the previous two waves, the doctor began to get the case of MIS-C when the case began to decline.
“Back after post-infection, rash, redness of the eye and lips, diarrhea and gastrointestinal problems are some of the things that parents must pay attention to as a signal for mis-c.
This can cause a quick decrease and parents should not delay in seeking medical help.
-C can also occur in children during acute covid infection, “said Sarkar.
During the first two waves, Covid infection was not detected at around 60% of children suffering from MIS-C, because most of them remained without symptoms.
When they were taken to the hospital with symptoms of MIS-C, the doctor detected Covid antibodies.
“We get children infected with the age of age.
We don’t know the post-infection impact on children and have to wait a few weeks for Mis-C cases,” said Susita Saha from Fortis Hospital.
But the doctor said infection was not invasive disease, unlike in the last two waves.
“Data in South Africa, England and the US have not reported a surge in unusual MIS-C cases.
While this is an entertaining factor, we cannot drop our guards,” Sarkar said.
Doctors also say that such as previous waves, children are generally asymptomatic or have mild symptoms.
“But the severity during infection is not much related to MIS-C in two previous waves.
Therefore, there is no reason to take this virus lightly,” Giri said.
