LUCKNOW: With over 44 hooch deaths in Aligarh, DGP headquarters admitted district police were neither making efforts nor using intelligence to check its sale.
A set of instructions has been released for district police chiefs.
Between March-end and April first week, 15 persons have died after consuming hooch in different districts.
ADG law and order, Prashant Kumar, while elaborating on the instructions, said that joint teams of excise, district administration and police must conduct continuous checking in their areas.
During monthly crime meetings, excise department officials must also be invited.
Kumar also said that responsibilities of beat constable must be fixed so that they take the job of cracking on illegal liquor shops seriously and submit a monthly report to the circle officer.
He also stressed on prosecution of those selling illicit liquor.
A list of former offenders of illicit liquor sale must be made at each police station and vigil must be kept on all such offenders to check what they are doing to eke out a livelihood, the officer said.
Police must also impose NSA and Gangster Act against those found guilty.
