‘Beauty in Sanguem without NOD WRD’

Quepem: A 32-Lakh Rs Beauty Project consisting of a structure that extends about 20 m to Sangam and the retaining walls of the banks are taken by the Sanguem Municipal Council (SMC) without obtaining approval from the Department of Water Resources (WRD), revealed RTI Query by SMC Fouziya Shaikh.
The project in Kottapar, Sanguem, was completed two years after being chased by former Sanjay Raikar SMC Board member in his environment number 8, around 500m south of the River (Sangam) meeting, RTI replies countries.
Construction covers around 25% of its width in Kottapar, a quiet and beautiful place in the city.
On a low tide, the walls on both sides of the steps change the structure into a pool.
A curchorem youth drowned here last year because the wall sank quickly when the tide was fast.
The construction of a 100-odd meter retaining wall along the west side of Raikar properties on the banks of the river is another major project component.
The road Tarred connects the stairs and seating arrangements have also been done in place.
The city of Sanguem obtained his name from Sangam – a meeting of two tributaries, which flowed down from the foot of Bukit Sahyadri.
Someone almost surrounded the core area of the city from the south side because it reached Kottapar and other joints in the north near the Sangameshwar temple which sank partially.
“We are not aware of the project,” said the Department of Water Resources (WRD).
Raikar in its part said that the board took the project and denied knowledge about septic tanks.
“Getting the NOC for the project is the work of the council,” he said.
However, Shaikh’s efforts have thrown focused on beauty, after the silence of other board members, citizens and government institutions on concretization and construction of septic tanks on the banks of the river.
“We initially thought the project had WRD approval,” Shaikh said.
Rivers flowing from hills and forest areas carrying fresh water, which since decades, are used for drinking, bathing and washing clothes by locals.
The council member twice in his complaint to WRD has demanded intense action against Raikar.
“The 100 meter wall is obstruction and work, including septic tanks may pollute the river, he said.
