Portland: The former Republican government entitled Paul Lepage, who likes to compare himself with former President Donald Trump, officially announced Monday that he launched a campaign for the third term.
Lepage was not shy about criticizing his replacement, Mills Janet Governor Mills, through fiscal policy and his actions during the Coronavirus pandemic.
“Maine faces some challenges and we have to work to build a better future based on individual freedom, fiscal responsibility, and economics that empowers all people including our rural communities,” he said in a statement.
There will be a autumn campaign kickoff, he said.
The Mills Campaign responded by pointing to its success in expanding Medicaid, investing in education, providing property tax assistance and promoting clean energy work “all while leading Maine through global pandemics with the best results.” The Lepage announcement came four days after the document was submitted with the State Ethics Commission.
Under Maine constitution, he is limited to two consecutive terms but can walk again after sitting.
He must submit additional documents with the Secretary of the State Office next year.
There is no love that is lost between Lepage and the factory.
They fought when he was the Attorney General and he was the governor.
Mills have started fundraising but do not officially announce whether he will seek re-election.
Lepage, 72, presents two terms full of turmoil marked by the conservatism of tightening belts and bellicose battles with opponents and media.
He cut the tax, imposing a reduction in welfare, repaying millions in Medicaid’s debt to the State Hospital and remodeling the pension system.
The policy is often overshadowed by a public failure by a man who describes himself as “Trump before there is Trump.” He became headlines by telling the Portland of the Naacp chapter to “kiss my ass” for his decision to pass Martin Luther King.
Jr.
Day; Worried about asylum seekers spread “Ziki Fly,” reference to the Zika virus which is transmitted by mosquitoes; And suggest drug dealers abroad impregnate the “young white” girls in Maine.
He left a message of Lade-Lade for a democratic lawmaker and said another enemy “claimed to people, but he was the first to give it to people without providing vaseline.” He survived the effort of a long shot.
It is not clear how much appetite is for that style after four years Trump, who lost the re-election offer.
But Trump won one election election in Maine last November, underlining his popularity in Maine countryside.
Offer Lepage Adieu to his home country after leaving the office, announcing he moved to Florida where there was no income tax.
He signed up to choose there, but moved back to his home country last year.
He now lives in Edgecomb.
Lepage sometimes blamed his scrappy style in his parenting in Lewiston, where he said he was pushed around while homeless at the age of 11.
“I learned one very early thing in life: If you turn the other cheek, it hurts,” he said, ” He said, “he said.
