Bengaluru: An anesthetic city who worked in the Covid Ward who suffered lung damage in the second wave had received a new lease after a three-month hospital was filled with uncertainty and successful lung transplantation.
Dr.
Sanath Kumar, 30, who worked with a private hospital, was tested positively Covid on May 7 and was shifted to the ICU after his condition began to deteriorate gradually.
Dr.
Sanath Kumar was treated at the Aster Hospital CMI on May 28 and was placed on an extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), a life-supporting machine, before he underwent a lung transplant on June 22.
He was dismissed on September 7.
The wife of Sanath Manjula MJ, also a doctor, said he did not take Covid Jab when he suffered sinusitis and suffered allergies.
Sanath is currently supporting oxygen and undergoing physiotherapy sessions.
“When I tested positive and start taking medicine, I thought I would recover soon.
I have never imagined that I will end up with a lung transplant,” he added.
This is said to be the first post-covid double transplant in Karnataka.
The doctor conducted a procedure along with Dr.
Sandeep Attawar, chairs and director, transplantation of thoracic organs and helped devices at the Kims Heart and Lung Transplant Institute.
He came from Hyderabad for this procedure.
“Sanath is in a 3-4 week of observation for all signs of improvement in his lungs.
Because his lungs are severely damaged, he needs double lung transplants to survive,” Dr.
V Arun, Main Consultant (Anesthesia and Critical Care) , said the Aster Hospital CMI, said.
In four weeks register with Jeevasaranthakate (organ transplant organization and network in Karnataka), the lungs of braindead cadaver donors were found to be suitable for sanath.
Attawar said that the operation was “tiring” because Sanath suffered a combination of life-threatening lung damage caused by SARS-COV2, excessive immune response to it, and the failure of the body to repair injury.
