Kolkata: Chairman of the Minister of Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday launched a student credit card scheme, which he described as the largest largest project in the world.
With this credit card, every Indian student who lives in Bengal, who studies in class X and above, can apply for loans with a low interest rate to pursue higher studies in India or abroad.
Loans must be paid back within 15 years.
“Students can get a loan Rs 10 lakh in one phase or in the phase according to their needs and there is no guarantor needed for it.
Because, the state government will stand as guarantor,” said the ministerial head while launching the scheme.
“Anyone can apply to pursue courses so that parents do not need to bother.
This will help students change their dreams into reality.” Lakh students will benefit from the scheme, he added.
Class X students and above – to graduation, PG, PhD and post-doctoral levels – can obtain loans based on this scheme.
Students can get a loan to prepare for competitive exams, to pursue diploma courses and even for professional courses such as MBBS.
CM says the nationalized banks and cooperative banks will provide loans without guarantee guarantees.
Interest rates will be 4% and if paid during the study period, there will be a further discount of 1%.
Students can pay courses, tuition fees, inspection fees through this card and will be directly credited to the Institute.
Up to 30% of the total number of sanctions can be used for non-institutional purposes such as buying books, computers and for study tours.
However, the main minister asked students to be careful so that there was no fraud that occurred with a student credit card.
He advised them to visit the Bengal Government Education Department website or the Egygiye Bangla site for online applications and did not approach unauthorized people.
CM said it was one of his polls promises.
“Students from class X and so on will be eligible for this scheme.” He said the state government had implemented a Taruner Swapno and RS 10,000 scheme had been transferred to a bank account of 8.7 lakh class XII students to buy tabs or cellphones to continue their studies online.
This year, around 8.9 lakh students will be promoted to class XII and they will also benefit.
He said 70 Lakh students listed under the Kanyashree project would have the right to get this card.
“There are no economic criteria for students to get this card.
All students can submit a request to be independent.”
