Kolkata: West Bengal has become one of only two countries at Crore Lakh 10 clubs that are more than hospitals to witness positive GDP growth in the year’s hit pandemic, the other becomes Tamil Nadu.

Kant said Bengal, along with Bihar, Tripura and Sikkim, was among several countries who witnessed the rate of positive GDP growth in 2020-21, when the country as a total negative GDP growth was 7.7%.
Bengal has the highest GSDP among all Eastern countries at Rs 13.7 lakh Crore in 2020-21, followed by Bihar at Rs 7.6 lakh crore.
Bengal ranks sixth by GSDP, and experts show that the base that occurs growth is quite large.
Kant added that during 2015-20, the eastern and northeastern regions as a whole witnessed the highest GDP growth in the country.
“This shows that investment in this field produces results,” he said.
According to CEO of Niti Aayog, in 2019-20, the country’s economy slowed but eastern countries such as Mizoram and Tripura provide strong growth.
Minister of Finance Bengal said this was a clear central receipt that the Mamata Banerjee government had pursued the right demand stimulus policy and placed cash in the hands of people.
“Nationally, there is a massive negative growth and we have grown 1.2% in 2020-21.
This also confirmed the government’s policy of Mamata Banerjee,” Mitra added.
