Bengaluru: Advocates and activists based in the city have approached Bangalore Rural and Urban Ist Regency, denied the Redressal commission with a complaint against a hotel to round up his bill to the nearest Rupee and washed away from 40 Paise in the process.
Narasimha Murthy’s activist, who filed a complaint under Section 35 of the 2019 consumer protection law, stated that he visited the hotel near the Infantry Road in March this year and the bill amounted to 264.60.
However, it was rounded up to RS 265, something Murthy the term trade practice was unfair.
Looking for an explanation, he approached the hotel manager and more, but failed to receive a satisfying answer.
The request made by Murthy to show direction or order passed in this case is also futile.
“If the hotel collects excess amounts of 40 paise or 50 paise on the actual bill, it will get a rupee lakh every year by deceiving innocent customers,” Murthy said.
The Commission heard the problem on Friday and delayed it until August 20.
“Link complaints and documents …
The complainants are directed to take notification photos prepared by this office on their cellphones and send / send them to parties who are personally opposite or through WhatsApp and SMS with the effect of complaints, register numbers and dates for appearance,” Read commission order.
PC Rao, President, Bruhat Bangalore Association, said, “I will refrain from making comments because the problem is sub-yudice.” However, other hotelers told TII there was no malafide intention behind rounding the number of bills.
“Since 50 Paise coins or other denominated coins less than 1 are not used, we complement the number to the nearest Rupee.
For example, if the total bill is 264.50, we will complete with Rs 264,” he said.
Asked whether everyone followed the same rules, he said: “We are not sure.
We will discuss this issue in our next association meeting.”
