Residents unhappy as BBMP develops footpath without drain during water logging trouble
Residents are not happy with the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike’s (BBMP’s) work near the Trinity Circle as they face water logging problems during monsoon.
A footpath is undergoing development work under the Non-Motorised Transit Project by the BBMP.
The footpath between 515 Army Base Workshop’s compound wall and the Trinity Circle was in a poor condition and needed improvement urgently.
However, residents are unhappy that the BBMP is not constructing a drain for the footpath to avoid water logging in the area.
The footpath’s width is uneven and it is only two-feet-wide near the 515 Army Base Workshop, causing inconvenience to pedestrians and BMTC passengers.
The BBMP authorities have not taken any measures to increase the width of the footpath.

“All these years, walking on this stretch or waiting for a bus at the BMTC bus stop has been a tough task whenever it rains.
The stretch is flooded with rain water as there is no drain,’’ said BR Chandran, a social activist.
.
“Even pedestrians face trouble while walking on the footpath as there is a chance of them getting splashed with dirty water when speeding vehicles pass by,’’ he said.
Criticizing the development of the footpath without constructing a drain, Ramakrishna S, a resident of Halasuru said that the BBMP should construct a small drain and connect it to the drain at the Trinity Junction to avoid water logging during the monsoon.
“The BBMP should take up developmental works for the convenience of the public.
The footpath may be useful for pedestrians in summer and winter but certainly not during monsoon,’’ said Ramakrishna.

Meanwhile, Ashok Baghi, an Assistant Executive Engineer, from the BBMP, said that there was no drain along the footpath all these years.
“My responsibility is to repair the footpath.
I will advise the ward engineer to build a slope connected to the surface of the road, while asphalting it, to avoid water logging during monsoon,’’ said Baghi.
