Bengaluru: A 28-year-old man has been captured by the Northeast CEN crime police for allegedly deceiving a technical student with the pretext of helping him change his branch.
He has taken more than Rs 1.2 lakh from the victim and bought gold with him.
The defendant was Rajeshwar, from Maragondanahalli near Electronics City.
Police said Rajeshwar, who had joined private companies after completing the MBA, unemployed for more than a year.
The police put a cheat and cyber casts against unknown people based on complaints by Prashant Kumar Jain, a businessman.
Jain said his daughter joined a recent college engineering college.
He got a seat for electronics and computer engineering while the desired branch was computer science and engineering.
“We hope my daughter will get a chair in CSE if one of the candidates is given acceptance.
On January 8, he gets a text message that there are many canceled chairs and interested candidates can approach the sender to get it in the branch they want,” Jain said .
The sender says the candidate needs to pay Rs 2.2 lakh to change the branch.
The victim transferred Rs 1.2 lakh to the bank account mentioned.
After arresting Rajeshwar, the police also seized the gadget, seven SIM cards, 21 grams of gold chains, three gold coins, and more than Rs 1.7 lakh cash.
