Bengaluru: NGO sends home-made food to Covid patients

BENGALURU: Thippasandra resident Thirumala Sreenivasan, 70, turned Covid positive a month ago and found it difficult to manage his daily food requirements as he lives alone.
A friend suggested that he should get in touch with Domlurbased NGO Sadhana.
“For 10 days now, I have been getting meals from Sadhana.
Both the quality and quantity are good, so I don’t have to ask for dinner,” Sreenivasan said.
He is among 400 people who have benefited from Sadhana’s initiative, which supplies free home-cooked food to those in need.
The meals are sent through delivery services firm Dunzo.
Every day, close to 20 patients, people in home isolation and senior citizens get breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The NGO has joined hands with Domlur Senior Citizens Charitable Trust and Sai Organisation.
“The idea is to help Covid positive patients who cannot take care of themselves and support those who have just returned home from the hospital after winning the battle against Covid.
These patients are weak and cannot cook for themselves,” said entrepreneur Rajesh Kumar, who, along with his wife and corporate trainer Archana Rajesh, founded Sadhana in 2009.
“It was only when we saw the number of requests online did we realise how much we had to do.
So many people out there need help and so many are willing to help.” The NGO also offers assistance to orphanages and old-age homes.
Its primary volunteers are from Sai Organisation.
Eight of the team’s 30 volunteers, including Rajesh’s family, cook meals at home, while others provide other support.
Team members contribute funds from their pocket or use donations.
Sadhana has distributed food to Group D workers and security guards of ESI Hospital, Indiranagar, and residents of Domlur, Indiranagar, Cambridge Layout and surrounding areas.
“We have also distributed 46 food kits to priests who are in distress.
The kit contains rice, wheat flour, turmeric powder, tamarind, chilli powder, salt and other ingredients, and lasts for a month,” said Rajesh.
