With kids in grades 1-5 set to return to school on Monday – after a gap of 18 months – it’s now the turn of teachers in Bengaluru.
Class 1 and two children still in kindergarten when they last went to school and primary grade teachers prepared with excitement and some trepidation.
“There is a lot of excitement among the children to return to school.
Man is a social default, and schools provide the lifeline.
Challenges will unfurl as the progress of time, “said Preet Benjamin Aarons, principals, primary and pre-primary, Inventure Academy.
Aarons expect some separation anxiety and shame.
“We are thinking of a quiet zone for those who originally could not adjust to the loud noise.
It will be like the first day of school for many people, “he said.
Shanthi Raghunath, head of primary, Neev Academy agrees saying: “The pandemic has left students with losses and gains.
The loss is limited in literacy and numeracy we see is balanced with soft skills such as time management, self-reliance and great resilience.
We are working on utilizing these advantages to overcome the loss.
Inconsistency of routines and habits, while exposed to frightening news also leaves children uncertain, unsafe and unsure.

Rakesh Singh, academic head of implementation, Orchid The International School, said, “They will take some time to adjust and we expect some of them will have behavioral problems such as loneliness, a sudden explosion, etc.
We have a team of counselors in place on each campus and they will keep a close watch on the students.

Teachers indicate that children have to adjust to working in the social space of the individual rooms in their homes, learn social rules, how to play with other people, sitting for hours in class and listen to others without interrupting.
“The big challenge is to build stamina writing students have been lost,” Aarons said.
“To get back into the routine will also be challenging.
Will have to adjust your body clock as children have to get up early and many may have a long journey.
Some may also have emotional scars from the pandemic.
We must be really patient and sensitive.

School says another challenge is to understand the learning gap.
“All this while, the parents or grandparents who sat next to them in class online to help them with an answer.
We do not know how many children actually know, “said Tejaswi Ballari, principals, Poornaprajna Education Center, Srikrishna Nagar.
Concerns also about small children have to travel a certain distance in a known traffic Bengaluru with the prospect of a long future.
However, teachers believe children are very resilient and adaptable and will adjust to the school day quickly.
The most important preparation for teachers, especially in the main part, will welcome the children back to school and socialize with them.
In the first two weeks, they should focus on getting to know each child and help them get to know each other through sharing sessions, games and team activities.
Next will assess the level of learning of each child, one by one.
It will be a very exhausting for teachers and school administrators should pay attention to their welfare.
