Colombo: ten days after announcing his retirement from international cricket, Bhukauka Rajapaksa’s dough was available to play for Sri Lanka “for years to come.” The 30-year-old has submitted a letter of resignation to Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) in January 3.
However, after meeting with the sports minister Sri Lanka Namal Rajapaksa recently, Southpaw has changed his mind.
“Based on a meeting with Hon.
Namal Rajapaksa – Minister of Youth & Sports and after consultation with national voters, Bhukuka Rajapaksa has notified SLC that he wants to attract his resignation he tendered on January 3, 2022, with immediate effects,” SLC stated in the media release .
“In his letter to SLC, he pulled his resignation, he further stated that he wanted to represent his country in the game he loved for years to come,” he added.
In his initial letter, Rajapaksa has quoted family obligations as the main reason for his resignation.
“I have carefully considered my position as a player, husband and I made this decision waiting for my father and connecting family obligations,” Rajapaksa wrote.
Rajapaksa has so far represented Sri Lanka in five ODIS and 18 T20IS, scored a total of 409 throughout the format that included three years and fifties.
He was part of the T20 World Cup troops Sri Lanka and finished as the third top scorer for his team with 155 runs from eight matches.
