Nagpur: Workers from Bharatiya Kisan Sangh (BKS) RSS (BKS) on Wednesday held a demonstration in Nagpur as part of its national agitation to suppress “remunerative prices” to farmers for their production and call for “improving” new agricultural laws.
Speaking to reporters, Vidarbha’s president of the Vidarbha BKS Nana Aakhre said the union government must bring a new law or make changes in the Agri-Marketing Act imposed last year to add provisions for the minimum support price payment (MSP) for the main agriculture to produce.
Farmers must get “remunerative prices” for their products to cover their production costs, which they do not receive in the existing system, he said.
Senior BKS Certainly Dinesh Kulkarni previously said that remunerative prices were production costs plus profits.
Remunerative prices are farmers’ rights, which must be facilitated by the government.
Aakhre has indicated that the organization will intensify agitation in the coming days if these demands are not fulfilled.
Three agricultural laws imposed in September 2020 have been projected by the Modi Government as the main reform in the agricultural sector which will eliminate intermediaries and allow farmers to sell anywhere in this country.
However, farmers have stated the fear that the new law will open the way to remove the MSP safety pillow and get rid of Mandis, leaving them at the mercy of the big corporation.
