Bhu first included a course about Hindu Dharma in the curriculum

Varanasi: The Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has become the first university in the country to introduce a ‘Hindu dharma’ regular curriculum.
The university has started a graduate program in the study of Hindu, said the university on Tuesday, claiming that this is the first such program offered by universities in this country.
Courses under the Faculty of Arts will take place in Bharat Adhyayan Kendra, center established in a hundred universities, in collaboration with the Department of Philosophy and Religion, Sanskrit and Ancient Indian History, Culture and Archeology.

Sadashiv Kumar Dwivedi said that 45 students, including foreigners, have been listed in the first batch of this two-year course.
This course is four semesters with 16 papers.
“It took more than a century to start the course as in Hindu Dharma at the university after its establishment in 1914,” said Prof.
Dwivedi.
The course was inaugurated on Tuesday by the Rector Prof.
VK Shukla.
He said that it is a matter of great pride for BHU to begin a course that will make the world aware of the many unknown aspects of Hindu Dharma and assist in taking his teachings to more people.
“This program is an interdisciplinary program, which is in line with the New Education Policy 2020,” said Prof.
Shukla, adding that the start of this course in this center symbolizes the innovation that is the need of the hour.
Inaugural function was held in hybrid mode.
Overcoming the program, director of the Indira Gandhi National Center for Arts, Dr Vijay Shankar Shukla underlined the need to have such a course of Hindu studies.
