Varanasi: bring a victory for the University of Banaras Hindu, a young numismatist from the University, Dr.
Amit Kumar Upadhyaya, a professor assistant in the ancient Indian historical department, culture and archeology, has pocketed a prestigious project from the Indian National Science Academy, Autonomous Body of the Ministry of Science & Technology, the Government of India, to study Pickmark coins found in Uttar Pradesh.
Dr.
Upadhyaya said that pickmark coins were around 2,800 years old and so called because the techniques used in making it.
Coins made of pure silver are the first coins found and built by punching them.
The coins are widely used throughout the peninsula in ancient times, however, there are questions about the publisher, origin and their supply, which still needs a deeper and comprehensive study.
He said that he received an incentive grant under the Institute Project Institute of the Advantage in Bhu, for proposals on coins at o’clock.
He further developed the idea of studying coins in Uttar Pradesh and submitting a project, who received approval.
“After my study at Uttar Pradesh ended, I planned to study this study into other countries and throughout the country”, said Dr.
Upadhyaya.
According to him, this research will aim to answer the three main questions – who issued this coin authority? How is the coin printed (built)? This will help understand where coins come from, in India or elsewhere.
What is the economic condition of that time? This project will be collaborative and experts from the Department of Geology, Metallurgy and University Physics will also be involved in this study.
“This study will serve other larger purposes to examine modern counterfeiting Pickmark coins because after historical scientific analysis of coins, we will be able to find out the process and composition of the right coins.
This is important because when coins, which carry historical values, forged, analyze facts -fact the history becomes impossible, “said Dr.
Upadhyaya.
