Bhu scientists found the new ‘metal eating’ bacteria

VARANATION: In a significant breakthrough, scientists at the Indian Institute of Technology, the University of Banaras Hindu (IIT-BHU), have found bacteria that can separate metal causes of toxic cancer – chromium hexavalents – from water and make it safe to use.
This research has been published in a famous international journal, ‘Journal of Environmental Chemical Engineering’.
The new bacterial strain has been named after ‘Microbacterium Paroxydans Strain VSVM IIT (BHU)’.
Vishal Mishra at the School of Biochemical Engineering, IIT (BHU), and Ph.D Student Veer Singh has isolated the tension of the new bacteria from contaminated sites that can remove toxic hexavalent chromium from wastewater.
Hexavalent Chromium is a heavy metal ion responsible for several types of health problems in humans, including various types of cancer, kidney disorders and liver, infertility etc.
Hansel Mishra said, “This new bacterial strain is able to tolerate a large concentration of hexavalent chromium.
It is very effective for removing the hexavalent chromum of waste water compared to other conventional methods.
This bacterial strain shows a rapid growth rate in the cr (vi) that contains aqueous medium and with Easily separate runny media after a water treatment process.
“This bacterial strain is very beneficial because it is not necessary for the process of extra separation after being removed.
Waste water treatment mediated by bacteria is not expensive and non-toxic because there is no expensive involvement of equipment and chemicals.
Researchers has tested the capacity of hexavalent chromum removal from this bacterial strain in industrial and synthetic waste water and find satisfactory results.
The researchers also tested the mechanism for removal of hexavalent chromum in bacteria.
The study reported that some heavy metal tolerance mechanisms were activated in bacterial cells when They are planted in growth media containing Hexavalent Chromium, “he added.
This research is focused on methods that are cost-effective and environmentally friendly to remove toxic metal ions such as hexavalent chromium from water.
Bacteria can easily foster and eliminate hexavalent chromium effectively.
No skilled workforce is needed to repeat the bacterial strain.
It’s very cheap, non-toxic and easy to use.
Also, separation after use does not require large energy input and removes the Hexavalent Chromium to the discharge limit of the Central Pollution Control Agency (CPCB).
“Diseases that are transmitted through water are the main problems in developing countries.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO) 3.4 million people, most children, die of diseases related to water every year.
According to UN Child Dana Assessment (UNICEF ), 4,000 children die every day due to bacterial contaminated water intake.
Who reports that more than 2.6 billion people do not have access to clean water, which is responsible for around 2.2 million deaths every year, where 1.4 Million are children.
Improving water quality can reduce diseases transmitted through global water, “Dr.
Mishra.
Cancer caused by heavy metals such as hexavalent chromium is a heavy problem throughout the world.
Developing countries such as India and China are very vulnerable to heavy metal contamination.
Human intake from Hexavalent Chromium mainly through skin contact, water intake contaminated or contamination in food products.
Hexavalent chromium causes several diseases to the human body and are dangerous like cancer.
The Ministry of Water Resources report said a large number of Indian residents drink water with deadly toxic metal levels, around 239 million people in 153 districts in 21 countries drinking water containing toxic metal ion levels that are unacceptable.
Those who have warned that long-term water intake containing poisonous heavy metals such as tin, chromium, cadmium and arsenic can cause skin cancer, bile, kidney or lung, he said.
