Bhubaneswar: Amid a high cut-off concern, lack of chair concerns

Bhubaneswar: The cut-off sign for degree programs tends to increase this year considering that there has been a substantial leap in students who score 90% and above in the XII class XII exam.
In addition, recordings of students have cleared the exam, and the academics feel there is a need to increase seats at the university level as the government is carried out in the case of plus II in higher secondary schools.
“Because of the high scores and high percent passes, the number of students who submit a request in the degree course will increase significantly this year.
I hope the government will consider increasing seats in Plus III too.
In addition, cut-off for awards will also increase at least 5% compared to last year, “said Sasmita Sarangi, Principal of Rajdhani title College.
There were 1033 colleges in Odisha with the sanction power of almost 1.7 lakh chairs.
This year as many as 2,87,400 students cleared a higher secondary examination in science, art and trade, registering a percentage of passing around 98% at the average.
Going with the availability of chairs, it is likely that there will be a shortage of nearly 1.1 lakh seats in Plus III.
Academics also show that the increase in seats is not a solution because there are shortcomings of acute teaching staff, and basic infrastructure such as classrooms, libraries and so on.
“The increase in seats in college can provide recognition to more students but will only put more pressure on the system because there are acute shortcomings of permanent teaching staff and infrastructure crises.
Unless the problem is resolved, quality education cannot be ascertained to students,” said Niranjan Mishra, “said Niranjan Mishra,” said Niranjan Mishra BJB School Autonomous College.
