Bhubaneswar: The price of tomatoes in the capital retail market has soared to the highest at 80 per kg.
Losing a massive harvest because the rain is not season, limited supply of tomato-producing countries and high diesel prices causes soaring kitchen essence prices.
Tomatoes were sold at Rs 30 per two two weeks ago, but lost large plants because prolonged monsoons affected the usual important plant supply to the market.
“Bhubaneswar mainly gets tomatoes from Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
At present, about five tomato trucks come to the city every day.
Previously 10 to 15 trucks.
High demand coupled with a short supply price has caused prices to rise,” said Santosh Sahu, Wholesale vegetables.
“Plants from various countries have not been harvested.
This is another reason of lack of supply.
It will take several more months for local plants to be ready.
But the quality of local tomatoes is not as good as that varieties coming from other countries,” said Prakash Rout, A vendor.
The increasing price of all essential vegetables has disrupted the family budget, in addition to damaging the celebration in the celebration season.
