Bhubaneswar: a group of city-based dancers, including some children allegedly cheated by a women’s choreographer with the pretext of shows in Dubai and Singapore.
Duped players met Police Commissioner Saumendra Priyadarshi in his office on Friday and urged him to take action against the choreographer.
“We paid nearly Rs 3.4 Lakh to Sephalika Mohanty, who was a dance choreographer, in phase in January and February this year.
He assured to take us to Dubai and Singapore where 21 of us, including some children, should do modern dances .
But he denied his promise and cheated us, “said Amit Kumar Patro, a dance teacher who was cheated.
Patro said they were asked to appear in Dubai on April 1 and Singapore in April 3.
The dancers should leave for Dubai on March 28.
“We, especially children, are all excited for their first performance abroad.
We have trained hard.
But we never expect him to cheat us,” another dancer, asked for anonymity.
When artists demanded a refund, Mohanty allegedly made them wait for several months.
The victims filed a complaint against him at the Lax Resort Police Station in June 5.
They accused that even though the police registered the case of cheating on him, he had not faced legal action.
The police said the allegations against him were being examined.
