Bhubaneswar: A man who allegedly stabbed the married woman’s friend to death in the Bhimatangi area recently, wanted him to marry him, leaving his husband and child.
Police said Jagannath Pradhan, the defendant killed Priyanka Priyadarshini Sahoo when he refused his request.
Jagannath, who suffered an injury after an offer to end his life after killing Priyanka on July 5, produced in court on Wednesday.
The police officially arrested him on Wednesday because he had undergone hospital treatment here since 5.
July.
Police said Jagannath and Priyanka knew each other because they belonged to Jajpur Regency.
Priyanka married Rakesh Sahoo seven years ago and the couple had a three-year-old son.
During the interrogation, Jagannath told the police that he wanted to marry Priyanka.
Four days before the murder, he decided to ask Priyanka to escape with him and if he refused, planning to kill him and the child and then end his own life.
As planned, he reached Priyanka’s house around 9am on July 5 when he and his son was at home.
He brought chocolate, soft drinks, knives, a bottle of poison and Vermillion.
Jagannath also clicked Selfie with Priyanka and his son, who left immediately after their landlord, who lived on the first floor, came to take him home.
“Jagannath hid in the bathroom to avoid paying attention by the owner of the house,” said Deputy Commissioner of the Uma Police Shankar Dash.
When they left Jagannath tried to seduce Priyanka and forced Vermilion on his forehead and insisted that he escaped with him.
Scuffle broke out between the two when Priyanka rejected its proposal.
Jagannath who was angry then attacked him with a knife and cut his own breath.
