Bhubaneswar: Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Saturday launched a collection of electronic waste from the door to the door (e-waste).
Every Saturday will run the drive of the F-waste collection.
This for the first time the drive was introduced to stop scattered and mix e-waste with solid city waste.
This will help in the separation of waste at the source.
Initially, 10 BMC wards would have this facility.
“During a consciousness, Swachh Sathis will let people know when they plan to visit their area.
E-waste disposal is voluntary.
Bulk e-waste collected will be taken to the Material Recovery Facility (MRF)., Which has been opened near Micro- Composting Center.
The State Pollution Control Board has ratified e-waste collectors, “said the additional Commissioner of Laxmikanta Sethi.
In 2018, BMC had launched the Bhubaneswar e-waste-free initiative.
But now, based on the fresh guidance issued by the Department of Housing and urban, the collection and disposal of e-waste will be carried out.
According to a source, currently the disposal of e-waste in the informal sector (by memo dealers) help restore only 30% of metals from waste.
“But recycling in a scientific way can take around 90% that can be reused for various purposes.
If the e-waste is recycled correctly, it can reduce pressure on the environment,” said an BMC officer.
E-waste management rules, 2016, have created momentum and opportunity to develop a long-term solution strategy for the management of e-waste in the smart city, said source.
