Bhubaneswar: Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has planned to post a “thank you” record at the doors of city residents who separate their own waste at home.
In addition, those who mix the waste varieties will be given a message of consciousness and those who fail to manage their waste correctly will be given “ask for a message” at their door, civilian official said.
The BMC step aims to make people aware of how to separate their own waste so that the work of civil workers is easy.
According to BMC waste management rules, dry and wet waste must be stored in two separate trash cans so that when the waste collector comes to take it, they choose and store dry and wet waste separately.
Wet waste goes to the Micro Compost Center (PKS), while dry waste reaches material recovery facilities (MRF) where plastic and metal are separated from common city solid waste.
Deputy BMC Commissioner (sanitation) SUVENDU Sahu said since 32 wards, at all 23 PKS operates, the urge to collect waste from the doorway is limited to the environment.
“We found that the ward where PKS operates, about 25% of households do not obey Twin Dustbins.
So, the message ‘Thank you’ is intended for those who follow the norm of segregation so that other people learn from them,” he added.
