Bhubaneswar: Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Sunday attached the ‘Thank you’ sticker in front of more than 600 houses in the city that appreciated their steps separating waste before handing over garbage to sanitation workers.
On the first day of the drive, BMC attached this sticker at 600 houses, 200 in each of the three zones, as part of the Connect Connect initiative which was intended to encourage people to separate garbage in their homes.
This drive was carried out in Badagada Brit Colony, near the police station under the Southeast Zone, Soubhagya Nagar Bank Colony under the southwest zone and at Gajapati Nagar under the NO-12 under the North Zone.
Three types of stickers have been developed by urban local agencies that distinguish households based on separate waste to safaili from BMC.
Families that provide separate waste thank you with green stickers inserted in front of the house.
The Civic body places orange stickers in homes because they do not provide mixed waste and ask residents to separate waste to the source.
Some families, who do not give waste and throw them outside, submitted to deposit their waste in a separate way for sanitation workers collecting garbage in the morning.
BMC will put a red sticker at their door, the official source.
There are 23 micro compost centers (PKS) which cover around 32 BMC wards.
Wet waste collected from home is used to make compost in this MCC.
There are plans to increase the number of PKS to 41.
After this, all Civic’s body wards will be included in this initiative.
BMC has asked city residents to separate dried waste and wet waste in their homes.
Wet waste will be brought to PKS and dry waste will be processed at the Material Recovery Facility (MRF).
The city has 24 MRF, but eight of these facilities work.
