Bhubaneswar: A BTECH student, who was reported as a victim of Kleptomania, was detained at the Saheed Nagar police station here for more than 4 hours after he was suspected of escaping with an iPhone worth Rs 1.4 lakh from a mobile store on Tuesday.
The police released him only after his family paid money to the shop owner.
A high drama opened before he landed in trouble.
Armed with shorts, a 23-year-old Smart Street girl reached a telephone store at around 11:40 a.m.
in the Posh Saheed Nagar area.
He lives in an apartment near the store.
He asked the salesman shop to show the iPhone 12-pro-max (256 GB) model that came around Rs 1.39 lakh.
“We don’t have a stock model expensive.
Because he insisted on buying a model immediately, we arranged one in half an hour.
He waited in our store,” said P K Jena, Salesman.
When he was given a bill, he took a request that the debit card had several problems.
“He asked me to accompany him to his house and collected cash from his father.
He also asked me to bring the swipe card machine so that his father’s debit or credit card could be used.
I agree,” Jena said.
When the seller will take his bicycle, he confirmed it to accompany him in his car.
He suddenly stopped his car near the gas station and took out a blank bottle and asked the salesman to buy gasoline.
“I saved the swipe machine in the car and walked towards the gas station when he left with a telephone and swipe machine.
I ran in front of the car and fortunately traced his apartment,” he said.
Salesman was surprised when he refused to identify him and denied having taken a telephone from the store or swipe machine.
Based on his complaint with the police, he was called to the Saheed Nagar police station where he was asking for innocence.
He was not ready to recognize his crime despite seeing CCTV camera recordings.
“We did not register any case because his family paid money for the iPhone and swipe machine.
His family said this was the first time he had committed such a violation.
But his sister claims that he suffered from depression,” said a police officer.
