Bhubaneswar: Chandrasekharpur police here on Tuesday held a woman because she was suspected of killing her husband and then hiding the body at home for two days before the neighbor had a stench and told the police.
The police said the Died Mundari (55 years) and his wife Jhesi (45) was a contract sweeper with Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and was a slum area.
“We have detained the wife of the deceased to be interrogated.
Signs of minor injuries found in the body, even though the exact cause of death can be ascertained only after postmortem.
The situation causing death is being examined,” said Deputy Commissioner of the Uma Police Shankar Dash.
The police said the neighbors told them that the couple had a tense relationship and often fought.
The couple lived alone because of their two daughters married.
“We did not hear noise in their homes since Sunday.
No one saw them in the last two days.
On Tuesday morning we caught a stench that came from the house.
That’s when we told the police.
We were surprised to find Mundari dead And his wife lives with his body for the past two days, “said Arjuna Diggal, a neighbor.
Mundari’s cousin Sangram, who lived nearby, claimed that Jhesi killed his brother.
“My brother’s wife is addicted to alcohol.
He might have quarreled with him and killed him.
I saw a sign of injury on his face and neck,” said Sangram.
Mundari’s wife begged innocence in front of the police.
“We asked him.
He claimed his husband died of illness.
But he could not give a satisfying reply about why he looked after the body at home for two days,” said an officer of the Chandrasekharpur police station.
